Why EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidenced-based type of psychotherapy that can help facilitate healing from various distressing life experiences. Rooted in the belief that our bodies and minds are hard-wired to heal, the experience of EMDR allows you to naturally process traumatic memories, therefore alleviating the powerful emotional response to the past. The process involves using bilateral movements to engage both sides of your brain. While it was previously assumed that healing from traumatic events could take years to process, EMDR has demonstrated that the mind can heal much like the body. Unlike other approaches to trauma work, EMDR does not require you to share details about the distressing events in your life. EMDR has been used to treat various conditions including trauma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, panic disorders and depression, substance use disorders and other life stressors.
